CONCERT Roundtable: The emerging utility of liquid biopsies in lung cancer

A/Prof Therese Becker completed her undergraduate and BSc (Hons I) at the Universities of Ulm and Bonn, Germany and then joint the University of Sydney, Australia, for her PhD and postdoc providing insights into inherited melanoma predisposition and resistance mechanisms against BRAF inhibitor therapy in melanoma patients. In 2013 she was attracted to the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research, Liverpool Australia, to establish the Centre for Circulating Tumour Cell Diagnosis & Research (CCDR). She leads the establishment of highly sensitive methods to isolate and analyse CTCs, ctDNA and exosomes and has shown correlation of tissue and liquid biopsy-based biomarkers with disease outcome in cancers including prostate, lung, ovarian and brain cancer.
Dr Pei Ding underwent medical oncology training at Liverpool and St Vincent’s hospital, and completed her fellowship and PhD study in lung cancer liquid biopsy research at Liverpool Hospital and Ingham Institute of Applied Medical Research. She is now a medical oncologist at Nepean Blue Mountain Local Health District with clinical expertise in managing lung cancers and gastrointestinal cancers. She is also a clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney and chair of the Lung Cancer Translational Research Group (LEGO).
