Derek’s Story

I was first affected by cancer with the death of my mother from breast cancer at age 51. In 2003, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer and five-and-a-half years later doctors found early-stage cancer in my gall bladder.

I am now cancer-free and this is largely due to the excellent work of medical staff and behind-the-scenes medical research.

My involvement with the Cancer Community Panel is my way of expressing my gratitude and giving back to medical research community so that one day we might see an end to this disease.
